FAQ

When and how should I drink These Days?

These Days is your gateway to aperitivo culture. Our spritzes are designed to be shared around the table or at the park with mates.
When? First drink of the day, slowing down, celebrating the start of the night and the transition from work to play.
How? If you’ve got yourself a These Days bottle, get yourself some ice and wine glasses, cut yourself some orange slices for the Sundown and grapefruit slices for the Venetian and get pouring. If you’ve got cans, just make sure they’re ice cold and you’re good to go!

What is a spritz, anyway?

There are a number of definitions knocking around but for us we like to work from the origin of the word which is from the German 'spritzen' (to splash). Typically, German soldiers would spritz their strong french wine down to a more sessionable level so it was easier to drink. Nowadays, we'd say a Spritz is a wine-based drink that is lengthened with soda, often with a bitter note in taste.

So, you’re a cocktail?

We’re a cocktail in that we are a mixture of alcohol and other ingredients but we’d prefer to be known purely as an aperitivo. When experiencing aperitivo in Europe, you don’t go out for a cocktail, you go out for an aperitivo and while, strictly speaking, they can be classed as a cocktail, aperitivo drinks are a special subset of drinks because they have a purpose beyond just their deliciousness -they are the transition from work to play and the celebration of the start of the night.

What is Aperitivo?

Aperitivo is a considered approach to drinking. It’s a function and a symptom of European life cultivated and nurtured over hundreds of years. The drinks are bright, bitter, bubbly and designed to guide the transition from work to play and celebrate the start of the night. It celebrates socialising and, at the heart of it, demands connection with others.

Why 6%?

Drinking isn’t about hacking the hangover anymore. It’s about the occasion. Aperitivo is all about the experience, it’s not about drinking to get drunk. 6% and proud of it. It’s inclusive. It’s enjoying tonight and tomorrow. It’s longer evenings and more memories. All the good stuff.

Why do you use extracts and not real fruit?

Waste is a big deal for us. When we were bartenders, we would often only need one part of the fruit or veg like the leaves or skin etc and we could also afford to say ‘when we’re out, we’re out'. Here, because some of our ingredients are just concentrated versions of themselves, there’s far less waste and it allows us to keep that consistent deliciousness on a bigger scale.

What food should I eat with These Days?

In Europe, aperitivo drinks are almost always near food. For the Sundown Spritz, we recommend more classic aperitivo snacks like salty nuts and juicy olives. With the Venetian, we’d recommend pairing with more robust dishes like stews, cullen skink or even with your Sunday roast.
